Road To Rouen
Rouen is a beautiful French town located in the Normandy region of France and it oozes cultural, beauty and charm! Famous for being the city where Joan of Arc was tried and executed, the skyline is dominated by the spires of Cathédrale Notre-Dame, painted many times by impressionist Claude Monet.
As you meander around Rouen’s endless cobbled lanes you’ll discover one of the most impressive clock towers in France, The Gros-Horloge, (and a great craft beer taproom tucked just behind it).
Nine month journey
Coincidently ‘Road To Rouen’ is also the name of an album by British indie group Supergrass, and this is what the Indigo team chose to listen to for at least part of our 2.5 hour drive from Eurotunnel to the city as we embarked on the final stage of a 9 month filming project for Interreg and Kent County Council.
A project which had taken us to numerous locations and businesses around Kent, telling the story of how each organisation had benefitted from the C-Care support scheme, a voucher scheme responding to the socio-economic challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Above is one of our case study films with Erik Uebel from Ella’s Beehive, a recipient of the Green Voucher for the C-Care Scheme.
Covid Channel Area Response Exchange
Covid Channel Area Response Exchange or C-Care for short, focuses on helping individuals at risk of exclusion from the labour market and helping businesses from some of the most impacted economic sectors to recover and grow.
Delivered by a partnership of public sector organisations on both sides of the Channel, they came together to produce their own tailored voucher schemes which aim to assist individuals or businesses to develop new skills, access new tools, digital skills or sustainable advances and boost their business or gain employment.
Indigo were commissioned to create case study films for all of the Kent based businesses who have benefitted from the scheme, and document the experience from all of the public sector organisations involved.
Nine case study films later we found ourselves on the way to Rouen, France to meet all of the organisations involved in this vital project and capture their stories and create a 40 minute film documenting over a year’s worth of hard work and positive outcomes.
Interviewing the partners in this project helped the team at Indigo truly appreciate how much collaboration, planning and effort from organisations on both sides of the channel went into ensuring SMEs and individuals had access to help in the wake of the pandemic. The case study films we were creating for 9 business across Kent took on a deeper meaning and the stories resonated even more with us, and in turn helped us fine tune the edits and shine a brighter light on the C-Care project and all involved.

In a cosy Brasserie down an Old Town Rouen back street, the Interreg C-Care partners raised a glass, along with the Indigo team to a job well done all round and it was such a pleasure to be there with them at the climax of such a worthwhile project.
After many months of working together remotely, and finally coming together in Rouen for a few days it was time to go their separate ways… but the The Gros-Horloge clock tower suggested maybe time for just one more craft beer before the road home.
