The Tree Council – Miyawaki Planting Project

The Trees Outside Woodland programme is developing innovative and sustainable new ways to increase tree cover, to address both climate and ecological emergencies.

We were commissioned by The Tree Council and Kent County Council to create three films that demonstrate to the public how pilot projects will explore ways to plant more trees in towns and cities, increase the uptake of tree schemes and develop more community nurseries. In the case of Kent a focus on the Miyawaki method for creating new forests.

The films were shown at The Urban Tree Festival and for Kent County Council, The Tree Council and Defra to raise awareness of how to plant more healthy, resilient trees as they work to achieve net zero ambitions.

The £2.5M, three-year programme is funded by HM Government and delivered in partnership by The Tree Council, Natural England, the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs with five local councils – Chichester District Council, Cornwall Council, Kent County Council, Norfolk County Council and Shropshire Council.

Miyawaki Planting - The Experiment

The Tree Council Team explains the nature of the planting experiment to ultimately use new ideas to come up with better ways of planting trees.

The films have been really well received. Lots of people saying how beautiful they are. For my first foray into making a film your team made it totally painless! Thank you!
